Microsoft Mobile Devices East Africa Product Manager King'ori Gitahi displays the Lumia 640

Microsoft Mobile Devices East Africa today announced the local availability of the Lumia 430, Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL devices in the local market. Launched in March 2015, these devices represent Microsoft’s latest addition in their extensive range of Lumia devices.

Empowering Everyone to Achieve More

With many of the “Next Billion” making the transition from Feature phones to smartphones, the Lumia 430 offers a good value proposition to this segment of the market. In the same vein, many Small to Medium Enterprises in the region are making the transition from traditional business process to a more mobile and agile platforms. The Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL provide productivity features without a corresponding price increase.

The devices will be priced as follows:

    • 4” (480×800) LCD display
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 Dual Core 1.2 GHz
    • 1 GB RAM, 8GB internal storage + MicroSD slot
    • 2MP Fixed Focus Rear Camera, 0.3MP Front Camera
    • 1500 mAh battery
    • Dual SIM
  • Lumia 640 – KES 19,999
    • 5” (720×1280) ClearBlack IPS display, Gorilla Glass 3
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad Core 1.2 GHz
    • 1 GB RAM, 8GB internal storage + MicroSD slot
    • 8MP Auto Focus Rear Camera + LED Flash, 0.9MP Wide Angle Front Camera
    • 2500 mAh battery
    • Dual SIM, LTE Capable
  • Lumia 640XL – KES 25,750
    • 7” (720×1280) ClearBlack IPS display, Gorilla Glass 3
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad Core 1.2 GHz
    • 1 GB RAM, 8GB internal storage + MicroSD slot
    • 13 MP Auto Focus Rear Camera + LED Flash, 5 MP Wide Angle Front Camera
    • 3000 mAh battery
    • Dual SIM, LTE Capable

In addition each purchase of the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL will come with a 1 year subscription to Office 365. The user will be able to install full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook on up to 1 PCs, 1 tablets (Windows, Android or iOS) in addition to the Lumia Smartphone. With Office 365 the user will also receive an 1 terabyte (1024 GB) of online cloud storage via OneDrive. All three devices will be upgradeable to Windows 10 for mobile later on in the year.

Buy A Lumia, Win A Car

Starting from May 12th 2015 to the end of June 2015, any person who purchases a new Lumia device in Kenya will be eligible to enter a raffle that includes a top prize of five 2014 Chevrolet Cruze automobiles. In addition, 1 Lumia 640XL will be up for grabs everyday until the end of raffle. To enter, the owner of a new Lumia will need to SMS the IMEI number of their new device to 22860.
