Samsung will be officially unveiling the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, its latest smartphones, in the Kenyan market in mid-March at a yet to be revealed date. Probably after March 18th, at least a week after the global rollout which starts on March 11th.
Given that Samsung has a tradition of putting its premium devices up for pre-order we reached out to them to find out whether the same will be the case this year. Samsung will open pre-orders for the two devices early on with interested buyers able to place their orders starting March 1st, 2016 by way of depositing at least 50% of the value of the device at any of Samsung’s 23 brand shops across the country.
As is the case globally, buyers of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the country will also be getting a free Samsung Gear VR headset worth Kshs 12,000. The 2016 edition of the Gear VR which anyone who orders the two devices within the set period will be getting were officially unveiled in the country yesterday during the grand opening of Samsung’s biggest brand store in East Africa at the ICEA building in Nairobi.
It does not end there. Buyers of the two devices are also getting more freebies to bring the sum total of free merchandise redeemable as a result of placing a pre-order for any of the two devices to a whopping Kshs 20,500! In addition to the free Gear VR headset, there will also be a free wireless charging power bank worth Kshs 6,500 and a free clear back cover worth Kshs 2,000.
The Galaxy S7 will go for a recommended retail price of Kshs 75,000. Its larger sibling with a display that curves slightly outwards and offers extra functionality, the Galaxy S7 Edge, will retail at Kshs 85,000.
Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will be available in two variants: one will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 8890 chipset while the other will pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. The devices have better features and specifications than last year’s models.
