The Microsoft Surface Laptop Is Now Official

This is so cool

Earlier today, photos of a “Surface Laptop” were leaked on Twitter which was kind of strange since we know that Microsoft already has a laptop of sorts, the Surface Book.

Well today, Microsoft’s Corporate VP for Surface, Panos Panay announced officially the Surface Laptop and everything that we saw on the leaks were true.

This is a brand new laptop from the tech giant and from the presentation, it is targeted for students. It runs the recently announced Windows 10S and is available in 4 colours: Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, Platinum and Graphite Gold. It has a 13.5 inch PixelSense display with the now expected 3:2 aspect ratio which Microsoft claims has 3.4 million pixels. It is a touchscreen just like the Surface book and you can write on it with the Surface Pen and weighs 1.25 kilogrammes. The keyboard has a relatively healthy 1.5mm key travel and it is backlit.

When it comes to design, Panay went on to show how they were able to make sure there are no speaker grills or holes on the design where speaker is integrated under the keyboard and vibrates through it. Since they run the latest Kaby Lake Core i5 or Core i7 processors, they need to be cooled and Microsoft has integrated vapour chambers at the rear of the laptop.

Microsoft also claims that this laptop can last for over 14.5 hours which is usually a big concern for many people out there and Panay compared it to the Macbook Air in this aspect.

When it comes to pricing, Microsoft is pricing the Surface Laptop starting at $999 for the Core i5/4GB RAM/128GB SSD version and they will start shipping 15th of next month.
