Kenya’s third largest mobile operator Telkom has announced the launch of Free Zones for pre-paid customers.
Free Zones will be areas where Telkom subscribers will be able to make free on-net calls, at any time, without any restrictions or the need to subscribe.
The service will serve as one of the telco’s commitment to offering more value for its near 4.2 million active subscribers.
“Our customers remain at the heart of what we do and we are glad to offer a more stronger value proposition. The introduction of the Telkom Free Zones targets to provide customers with with more opportunity to communicate, while at the same time getting to enjoy our network quality,” said Amer Atwi, MD of Telkom’s Mobile Division.
Requirements
Users are required to activate their Telkom lines with KES 50.
“One does not need to subscribe to a specific offer or bundle to enjoy the Telkom Free Zones. Whenever you are in a Telkom Free Zone, all your Telkom-to-Telkom calls will automatically be free,” added Amer Atwi.
However, calls made to other networks will attract a KES 3.30 fee per minute.
Locations
A Telkom user can dial *888# to find out whether they are in Telkom Free Zone.
The service will mostly be available Nyanza – Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and South Nyanza. Additional Free Zones will be in Murang’a, Nyahururu , Machakos, Eldoret, Cherengany and Turbo.
The carrier says more areas will be served in coming days.
