Xiaomi is improving the privacy and security of its users who have Mi accounts now that cyberattacks have increased exponentially. Google recently shared the importance of setting up two-factor authentication. They shared that adding a recovery phone number to your account blocked 100% of automated attacks, 99% of bulk phishing attacks and up to 66% of targetted attacks during the time of their investigations.
How it works
Xiaomi now wants to protect its Mi accounts using two-factor authentication in MIUI 10. The feature will notify you on other connected devices when you attempt a fresh log-in on a device or from a new unregistered location in your Mi account.
However, you will have the options to authorize the log-in or refuse.
Kacskrz, an XDA member shared screenshots of this implementation that works well if you have one device. According to the screenshots, there’s no SMS-based 2fa but looks like it will be added later.
This move is welcome as it will also prevent any illegal access to Mi Cloud.
2FA adds the inconvenience of having another added step to your login process buts it’s worth it, it’ll give you peace of mind.
