This Website Generates Hand Washing Posters Using Lyrics

The world is in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak, widely known as the coronavirus outbreak. This has forced governments to issue warnings against public gatherings and the demands for masks are high.

One of the ways health organizations have recommended people to do is to wash their hands thoroughly. A 20-second figure has been thrown around by the US CDC and the UK’s NHS. The Happy Birthday song has been used as an example of this effect where you sing it to its entirety while washing your hands.

Well, someone has taken inspiration from that and decided to create a website that creates a poster of your favourite song lyrics as you wash your hands.

The website, Wash Your Lyrics generates hand washing instructions which are accompanied by lyrics of a song of your choice. They use the lyrics website Genius for song lyrics, which in itself is the most unexpected use of song lyrics during the coronavirus outbreak.

Here is how it works. When you go to, you input the song title and the artist who sang it and click generate. The website takes a while to generate the handwashing techniques that are accompanied by the song lyrics of choice. When it is ready, you click on the Download Poster to get the poster.

It is quite a neat trick and it has become popular overnight. As of this morning, the website developer said that it had already created close to 90,000 posters and had over 121,000 unique users. Interestingly enough, the top songs searched on the website include Bohemian Rhapsody by QueenNever Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley (a popular meme troll song) and All Star by Smashmouth.
