Huawei today has announced that they have officially launched the Y7p to the Kenyan market. This is their latest Y series smartphone in the market which comes with the headlining 48MP main camera for a sub-Kshs 20,000 smartphone.
According to Huawei, the Y7p will be retailing in select stores across the country including Jumia at a recommended retail price of Kshs 18,499.
This effectively places it at the upper budget smartphone level in the market but its features make up for it.
It sports a 6.39 inch 1560 x 720-pixel display which Huawei calls it a “Punch FullView display.” This is due to the punch hole camera cutout at the top left which is inhabited by the 8MP selfie camera.
It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded with a microSD card slot. It is powered by their Kirin 710F processor which we have seen it in their past phones that include the Y9, Y9 Prime and Y9s.
The star of the show is the 48MP main camera at the back. It is a relatively huge sensor plus it has a wide f1.8 aperture to let in more light. There is also an 8MP wide-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view to take those expansive photos that you would not take with the main camera. There is also a 2MP depth sensor camera at the back.
The cameras still have the usual features we have seen in Huawei phones like AI recognition, portrait mode, aperture mode and more. Also thanks to the Kiron 710F, this phone can shoot 480fps slow motion video at 720p which can be super useful in some scenarios.
The software is another interesting part of the phone. It runs EMUI 9.1 on top of Android but it does not have Google Services thanks to the US government ban. At its core, it has Huawei Mobile Services which include their very own Huawei App Gallery that you can download your favourite Android apps from. EMUI 9.1 running on this phone looks similar to what we have been used to on other Huawei smartphones.
The Y7p also has a huge 4000mAh battery that we have seen in several other Huawei smartphones. Judging from past experiences, this will offer the long reliable battery life that we have experienced with Huawei phones with 4000mAh batteries.
It will be available in either Aurora Blue or Midnight black so check out at the local stores or on Jumia.
