Why TALA Has Not Been Licensed by CBK

Shortly after licensing only 10 digital credit providers, the Central Bank of Kenya has frozen all unlicensed digital lenders. The licensed lenders include:

  • Sokohela Limited
  • Sevi Innovation Limited
  • Rewot Ciro Limited
  • MywagePay Limited
  • Mwanzo credit Limited
  • Kweli smart Solutions Limited
  • Jijenge credit Limited
  • Giando Africa Limited
  • Getcash Capital Limited
  • Ceres Tech Limited

Missing big names

Tala, among other big players in the digital lending sector are missing from the list of licensed lenders. The company has responsed to its curious customers.

Through an official letter seen by Techweez, Tala says that their license application is still being reviewed since CBK received applications in bulk.

“The CBK received 288 applications between March 18th and September 17th and we understand that each application is being reviewed in order of receipt, ” says Tala.

The company has urged its customers to be patient as they work with CBK in regards with their license.

“In accordance with the provisions of CBK Act 2021, Tala will continue to operate as a digital credit provider.”
