Digital lender Tala has appointed Annstella Mumbi as the new General Manager for the Kenya Unit. With a career spanning fintech, EdTech, and venture funding across various African markets, Annstella Mumbi is well-poised to lead Tala Kenya. She had been serving as the interim GM since May, and this new step is just a confirmation. Before assuming her current role, she served as Tala’s Global Director of Growth and had also served as Senior Growth Strategy Manager for Tala Kenya. Her appointment represents the culmination of her three-year journey as a part of Tala.
In her new position, Mumbi will be at the helm of a team of 130 professionals, overseeing Tala’s transition into a full-service financial services provider in the coming year. Before joining Tala, Annstella Mumbi was already part of the Kenyan start up ecosystem. She served as a Venture Scout at Microtraction for two years. Joining Tala did not keep her off the venture capital world, as only this year she took up a role as a Venture Partner and Investor at RaliCap. Here she plays a role in supporting early-stage start-ups in East Africa with pre-seed and seed funding.
Additionally, her time as a Growth Strategy Consultant at Moringa School shows her long time experience growing tech ventures. Notably, Mumbi’s career journey started with Unilever as an SAP Consultant. She was also an intern at the same company.
Mumbi’s experience extends beyond her professional roles. Her commitment to making a positive impact in the African tech ecosystem is evident through her involvement with ImpactAfrica Network. At the organisation, she played a role in connecting innovators and changemakers to foster positive change across the continent.
Annstella Mumbi holds a Bachelor’s degree Mechatronics Engineering from JKUAT.
