Zizwe Awuor Vundla has been appointed as the Director of Brand and Marketing at Safaricom, effective February 1st, 2023.
Reporting to CEO Peter Ndegwa, Zizwe will be in charge of providing strategic leadership in regard to the overall Safaricom brand, including M-PESA, Safaricom Business, and the company’s foundations.
She will oversee the brand, ensuring its maintenance and development by creating a comprehensive strategy and structure.
Zizwe brings 18 years of Brand and Marketing experience to the company, having previously served as the Head of Marketing and Innovation at Diageo in South Africa since 2019.

Before joining Diageo, Zizwe spent 15 years at Proctor and Gamble, starting as an Assistant Brand Manager in 2004 and advancing through various Brand Management roles to become the Head of Marketing and Commercial in South Africa in 2015.
Zizwe holds a Bachelor of Business Degree from the University of Cape Town.
She joins Esther Masese Waititu, who has been appointed Chief Financial Services Officer, and Boniface Mungania, who has been selected as Director of Public Sector Digital Transformation. Boniface held the Chief Financial Services Officer’s office after it was vacated by M-PESA Africa’s Managing Director Sitoyo Lopokoiyit.
