The foldable smartphone market is heating up and the most awaited devices now have a launch date after days of speculation. Samsung has now confirmed that its upcoming foldables and wearables will launch in South Korea later next month.
Galaxy Unpacked 2023 where we expect to see the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Z Flip 5, the Watch 6 series, and the Tab S9 series to be launched.
The expected foldables are expected to sport a new waterdrop hinge that’s stronger and allows for complete closure when folded.

The Fold and Flip will have IP58 rating for dust and water resistance. They will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy platform – the same chipset that powers the flagship S23 series.
The Z Flip is expected to have a larger cover display.
Samsung is expected to showcase the new Watch 6 series and the Tab S9 series as well at the launch event.
This year has seen so many OEMs launch their versions of the bookstyle and clamshell foldables. TECNO entered the era with the launch of the Phantom V Fold that now rivals the Z Fold 4 in Kenya. They’re also working to launch a flip version of the Phantom.
OPPO entered the race too in Kenya offering the Find N2 Flip as well to compete with the Flip 4 locally.
Internationally, Google also launched its Pixel Fold. Other rivals include the Vivo’s X Fold+ and the Vivo Fold 2, Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 2, and Honor’s Magic Vs.
It’s interesting that Samsung has chosen Seoul to launch their next devices as opposed to other international cities like Barcelona and SanFransisco.
Tim Roh, Samsung’s head of Mobile Experiences added that Seoul is a city that has become an emerging epicenter of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.
Galaxy Unpacked will be held at COEX in Samseong-dong in Seoul on July 27th.
