Google has announced it is working on introducing a short-form video series feature in the Play Store called “The Play Report”.
The Play Report is the latest editorial feature that Google says will help users discover and download helpful and trending apps on the platform. Part of the announcement blog reads, “The Play Report spotlights the latest and greatest apps and games on Google Play, giving you the ‘download on what to download’.”
Google Play Store is home to millions of apps with different categories for users to choose from. The tech giant has further added that each episode of The Play Report will feature gaming and lifestyle experts (from creators to Googlers) and will cover trending apps and other “hidden gems” on the store.

The feature will be located at the top of the Play Store homepage. A YouTube video announcing the feature indicates it may be similar to YouTube Shorts and will feature an “install” button at the bottom together with the app’s thumbnail and name.
The Play Report is currently open to select Google Play users in the U.S. However, ineligible users can still watch the short video series on their YouTube, Facebook and Instagram accounts as we wait for a global roll out.
