In the world where the internet runs things, many romantic dates are set up via Direct Messages on dating apps. This appears to be the motivation behind Tinder Select, an ultra-premium package introduced to users.
Announced last Friday, the subscription has been opened to select users on an invite-only basis. Tinder Select will cost users USD 499 ( KES 73,527 at current exchange rate) per month. This translates to USD 6000 or KES 885,600 annually.
“We know that there is a subset of highly engaged and active users who prioritize more effective and efficient ways to find connections, and so we engaged in extensive tests and feedback with this audience over the past several months to develop a completely new offering,” Mark Van Ryswyck, Tinder’s Chief Product Officer said while speaking to Bloomberg.
The select-only club is reserved for the platform’s most active users. Tinder states that more invitations will be sent out on a rolling basis.

The ultra-package promises exclusivity in terms of VIP Searches, matching, and conversation. Further, the Select members will have their profiles boosted hence, will be seen by more users. The boosted profiles will be put in front of Tinder’s most “coveted” profiles.
Tinder believes this will give the Tinder Select members “more quality matches”.
Premium users can direct message another member without matching. However, they can do this up to 2 times per week. In addition, those who receive messages can opt out of receiving the direct messages. Tinder Select users will also get to be Beta testers of new Tinder features ahead of other users.
Requirements to join the exclusive club are straightforward. A Tinder user must have at least 4 photos on their profile. They need to add a minimum of 5 interests and write a bio with a minimum of 15 characters. Furthermore, the bio must include relationship intent.
Tinder has the Photo verification feature and this is another requirement. Lastly, one has to be ready to part with the cash that will get them into the promised land of quality hook-ups.
Upon application, approved users will receive an in-app message to alert. They will also receive an email with a unique unlock code.
