Another internet disruption has struck the East Coast of Africa due to a submarine cable cut. This latest incident, affecting the 15,000 km Pakistan and East Africa Connecting Europe (PEACE) cable, was initially reported two days ago.
These reports were confirmed earlier today by Ben Roberts, former CTIO of Liquid Technologies. Roberts posted, “PEACE cable is cut in the Red Sea 1450 km from Zafarana. Need to brace for a long direction repair quite possibly.”
The cut at the Zafarana area is reported to affect mainly the PEACE Egypt to Singapore segment, specifically in the Sudan EEZ. This cut occurred on March 4, 2025, at 17:46 GMT.
Internet users reliant on this submarine cable can anticipate experiencing selective high latency, degraded streaming quality, and impaired VPN performance.
The estimated repair time for this cut is mid-April 2025. To maintain connectivity during the repair process, internet traffic is being shifted to older cable routes.

It’s a tough time for the Europe-to-Asia-through-Africa route. The Asia Africa Europe-1 (AAE-1) cable is also severed in the Red Sea. This particular cable has been awaiting repair since December 2024, resulting in a prolonged degraded connectivity.
Users are experiencing slow loading times for web pages that rely on Content Delivery Networks located in the Middle East, indicating localized network congestion.
