Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has recently showcased its GavaConnect Enterprise API platform, which has now garnered over 1,000 developers, during the second hosting of its API Masterclass.
The demonstration was part of the tax collector’s effort to reaffirm its commitment to co-creating simplified service solutions with the Kenyan tech community, aiming to transform the country’s digital landscape.
This now makes KRA the first public institution in the country to build a platform that enables business and private sector players to easily integrate with its systems.
The GavaConnect platform now offers 16 interfaces like PIN and Tax Compliance Certificate checkers, NIL Return filing and e-Slip verification. The main goal with these APIs is to enhance tax compliance, improve efficiency and enhance taxpayer experience with the online systems they are supposed to use every year.
“The GavaConnect Enterprise API platform has exposed 16 APIs and registered over 1000 developers, reflecting a strong industry interest in tax-tech innovation,” stated Grace Wandera, Deputy Commissioner, Citizen Relations & Communication, in a press statement.
“Today marks a great opportunity for us at KRA to open up to the wider tech community,” said Annastacia Githuba, Deputy Commissioner for Program Delivery & Client Engagement. “This is not just about tax collection, it’s about empowering developers to build, innovate, and monetise solutions that make compliance simpler, faster, and more accessible.”
The Masterclass, hosted by KRA at State House, Nairobi, provided hands-on training and API showcases, giving developers experiences and offering them a chance to suggest future features that can improve the system.
“The API Masterclass series cements our partnership with Kenya’s tech community, as we co-design the future of tax administration,” added Githuba.
KRA adds that it plans to continue expanding GavaConnect in a bid to support programs like the electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) and enhanced VAT compliance tools, to further simplify compliance and reporting for business owners in the country.
