Tecno has finally released the rumoured successor of the PhonePad 7E from last year with the Tecno PhonePad 3 to the Kenyan market today. Backed by the ‘Do business stay mobile’ philosophy, the device is aimed to serve business people regarding productivity and communication at any time and place.
Primarily, the device is designed to bridge the gap left by ordinary smartphones that are mainly built on relatively small 5-inch to 6-inch footprints and the bulkiness of laptops while on the go. These assertions were echoed by Mr. Alvin Huang, Tecno’s Tablet Business Unit Marketing Director who said that, “There is a dilemma for modern business man: phone is too small to deal with some daily work, while laptop is too heavy to carry wherever you go. Here comes the PhonePad 3, a user-friendly high-end device carrying the mission of offering an improved and efficient business life.”
Here are the Tecno PhonePad 3’s specifications:
- Colours – Champagne Gold and Space Grey
- Dimension – 188*98*7.85mm
- Display – 7” HD IPS
- Resolution – 720 x 1280 pixels IPS

This is a relatively compact tablet with a 74% screen-to-body ratio. Coincidentally, it is packed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and there is no word on its update calendar to the current Nougat goodies.
As mentioned, the handheld is meant for business and is therefore equipped with several value-added tools. It has a suite of Intelligent Business Apps such as Camcard to manage business cards and contact details and CamScanner to scan documents into electronic equivalents. These documents can be read on the generous 7-inch display with WPS Office.
Other than a 13MP/5MP camera combo for documenting memorable moments, the PhonePad 3 is sufficiently powered with a 64-bit, octa-core MTK8735W chipset and a 4100mAh juicer that should be more than sufficient to meet performance requirements and excellent battery life.
Based on the above specifications and pluses baked on the PhonePad 3, Tecno is gunning to re-popularize the niche tablet segment that is on an acute decline due to the overwhelming love for phablets. The device is available in all Tecno retail outlets in Kenya and will sell at Kshs 22,199
