Microsoft underwent a serious re-organization last year and with a new CEO taking over several months later, key changes in the company’s leadership structure were expected. Obvious appointments like Nokia’s Stephen Elop and others were expected to be announced anytime.
Among the changes announced yesterday by Nadella in an internal email to employees, Scott Guthrie is now fully confirmed as the head of the Cloud and Enterprise group (once led by Nadella himself). Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Studios will now head a consolidated unit comprising of Microsoft’s Xbox, Xbox Music, Xbox Video and Xbox Live in addition to Studios. Bringing the Xbox teams together under one team leader is expected to spur more innovation to the platform.
Nokia’s current CEO, Stephen Elop, will join Microsoft as the Executive Vice President of the Microsoft Devices Group where he’ll be incharge of Microsoft’s mobile efforts while still managing the team he brings with him to Redmond from the Nokia handset division that Microsoft acquired.
