As of the latest financial results from Sony, it’s mobile business is bleeding. Its smartphone sales dropped by 16.3% in Q2 2015. In Q1, it had been kicked out of the top 10 biggest smartphone vendors in the world. It’s latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3+/Xperia Z4 has us not only confused over what to call it but is not a big departure from its predecessor like Samsung’s Galaxy S6 is from the Galaxy S5 or the LG G4 is from the LG G4. The solution? We’ve heard, and the company has never rejected this, that Sony is working on a super flagship device that will be released later this year. Before that though, there’s the Xperia C5 and the Xperia M5, two mid-range options.
The devices are not strangers to us as they have been the subject of extensive leaks in the last few days.
The Xperia C5 is the larger of the two devices featuring a 6 inch IPS LCD panel while the M5 has a 5 inch display. It also has Mediatek’s new Helio X10 chip. A 13 megapixel camera is available on both the front and the back of the phone with the front also getting an LED flash just in case you need your face illuminated while engaging in your selfie-taking spree. The M5 on the other hand also has the same 13 megapixel camera on the front (minus the LED flash) but packs a 21.5 megapixel snapper at the back. Sony is promising at least 2 day battery life on both devices.
