Over half a year since the Huawei Mate 8 was first announced, it is getting some sprucing up and Barcelona-based Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi’s coveted signature to come back in the market as a “Limited Edition Mate 8 signed by Messi”.
Huawei is expected to reveal the device on May 24th in China. Specifications of the device are expected to mainly remain the same with the 4GB RAM, 128GB onboard storage variant being made available. There will, however, be a few alterations to the packaging to warrant the exclusivity that Huawei is playing up as it seeks to one-up local rivals. ZTE, Huawei’s competitor in China and globally recently signed up another football star, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, to help market its Nubia-branded devices in a market that is very obsessed with western trends.
Messi was appointed Huawei’s brand ambassador in late March 2016.
The price of the limited edition Huawei Mate 8 is also expected to remain the same as that of the regular model.
The Huawei Mate 8 proved to be quite a popular device in China after selling over a million units in its first month of availability in the country.
