Wiko Robby is one of the three smartphones that the company launched back in August.

Like its other siblings, the U-Feel Lite and the Lenny, the Wiko Robby adds to the growing list of affordable smartphones running on Android Marshmallow in the Kenyan market. But you will be hard-pressed to notice Marshmallow as quickly as you would elsewhere as Wiko has layered its own customized interface on top to give its devices a unique look and feel. This is what, as a user, you will be interacting with.

In the box you get:

  • A wall adaptor
  • USB cable
  • Earphones
  • Several SIM adaptors for nano, micro and mini SIM cards (why doesn’t everyone do this?)
  • A screen protector
  • Some paperwork (user manual and warranty information)

The Wiko Robby is not a small phone. With a 5.5-inch display, it is quite large and heavy as well. Which is exactly the point: to provide an affordable smartphone with a large display.

The device’s back can be removed to expose the large battery unit (capacity: 2,500mAh) and the slots for inserting at most two SIM cards as well as expanding storage with a microSD card.

The most noticeable omission from the Wiko Robby’s back is a fingerprint scanner, a feature that is now almost a given even on entry-level devices and one that the Robby’s launch sibling, the Wiko U-Feel Lite, packs.

The device makes up for its lack of a fingerprint scanner with a focus on its core proposition: audio. The standout feature of the Wiko Robby’s appearance and overall design is the dual front-facing speakers and microphones on both the top and the bottom. This allows for a unique use case of the device, it can be held and used, comfortably, either way, just as it was the case with another device, Alcatel’s Idol 3.

The speakers are equipped with 3D surround sound so it promises to be quite the banger.
