Oppo F1s Starts Selling in Kenya

Chinese device maker Oppo has started selling one of its latest smartphones, the Oppo F1s, in the Kenyan market.

The device, which is branded the “Selfie Expert”, started selling in the country at the start of the month at a price of Kshs 27,990.

The Oppo F1s’ standout feature is the 16-megapixel front-facing camera which promises to bring selfies to life.

The 5.5-inch device which was announced back in August has also been selling in India where it became available immediately after launch and was even updated last month with a special Diwali edition to celebrate the Hindu festival of light.

The Oppo F1s is part of the company’s commitment to focus on delivering to its customers midrange smartphones with the best possible camera technology with its F series of smartphones. The pioneer of the series, the Oppo F1 which was launched earlier in the year, has been selling in the local market for several months now and the F1s is its heir-apparent.

Oppo has been in the Kenyan market since March 2015 when it debuted with three smartphones, the premium N3 and R5 and the entry-level Neo 3.

The company’s most notable products include the Oppo N3 which became the world’s first smartphone with a swivel camera when it launched back in 2014 and the Oppo R5 which launched in the same year. The latter clings to fame as one of the world’s thinnest smartphones at just 4.85mm (it is bested by Vivo’s X5 Max which is just 4.75mm thick). It’s so thin that it ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack 2 years before Apple’s iPhone 7 made it look less ridiculous.
