TrueCaller was released around 8 years ago and it serves as a Caller ID system where it identifies an unknown contact, which can be useful to sift out spammers from people you want to contact with. The service was so popular to the point where TrueCaller decided to come up with TrueMessenger in 2015 which is used to identifying the sender of the texts and also to block spam texters.
The app is indeed popular and it has over 250 million users worldwide. This means that a lot of people have given TrueCaller their contact information and it is so vast in fact the company claims that you can search over 3 billion phone numbers from their database.
However, TrueCaller is one app that requires a lot of data from you and if you check the permissions the app requires from you, it needs such permissions like your contacts, calendar information, location, microphone use, call logs, reading your texts, checking your Wi-Fi connections and much more. The app also connects with your Facebook and/or Google account and, so in theory, TrueCaller might end up having a lot of your information.
Well, today Truecaller released broadly their call intent targeting ads platform which is quite thorough when it comes to obtaining data from you. This may make you want to delist your number from the service and fortunately, TrueCaller allows you to delist your phone number from their database.
Unlisting from Truecaller involves two easy steps:
- Deactivate your account from the Truecaller app by heading over to Settings > About > Deactivate account.
- Head over to their unlisting page, input your phone number on the search box and click unlist. According to the company, the unlisting process will take 24 hours to complete.
Previously, they used to ask why you wanted to unlist your phone number from TrueCaller, but it seems they later dropped that option.
