Hon. John Mututho, a Kenyan politician, former Naivasha Member of Parliament and immediate former National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) chairman, has instructed his lawyers – Kithi and Company Advocates, to take legal action against telco giant Safaricom, Facebook-owned WhatsApp, big mama Google and a few social media influencers among them Elijah Kinyanjui, Alice Muchiri, Steve Gitukia, Detective Sue and Paul Ndirangu for defamation.
John Mututho is famously known for his Mututho laws, which were meant to bring sanity into the alcohol trade with strict selling hours and bars not allowed to operate within proximities of schools. Well, after losing his bid in the just concluded elections where he was running for Governor in Nakuru County, the man, John Mututho has taken on the big boys in the said law suit.
Hon. Mututho alleges that the accused ‘maliciously originated rumours of a confidential transaction’ which he believes was meant to damage his repute. A letter obtained by iFreedoms, dated 16th, has the details of the law suit:
WhatsApp has been dragged into the lawsuit because apparently, the details of the said M-Pesa transaction were shared through the platform. We are not sure what mother Google did though.
There is no report on whether Safaricom, WhatsApp, Google or the other individuals have responded to the law suit. However, this is one case that is bound to stir some controversy, due to the fact that big names are involved.
