The Y5 Prime is a budget smartphone from Huawei targeted at the youth, denoted by the Y in the name. The device, not only features a low purchase price but also comes equipped with 2018 features such as a full-view display and AI-powered selfies.
The device which retails at KES.9,999 is currently on pre-order on Jumia until July 12th, bundled with a free gift hamper for every pre-order.
Speaking during this announcement, Derek Duh, Country Director Huawei Mobile Kenya said, “We are introducing Y5 Prime 2018 to meet the growing demand of customers who are looking for a budget-friendly device that provides the same function as any other phone that is a little bit pricey. The Pre-order phase is to introduce our consumers to the device which is currently available at both Jumia and other retail stores across the market.”
Unboxed
In the box, we get all the standard accessories such as a USB Cable, a wall charger, a screen protector and user guide leaflets.
The device is made entirely of plastic but it feels solid. The battery is non-removable since it’s a unibody device.
The biggest feature is the 5.45-inch display clocked at 720p resolution. It comes in the now standard 18:9 aspect ratio, making the device look modern and stylish, especially in blue like what we have. The main highlights of the device, however, are the 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage that we find on-board. My first experience is that the RAM loaded on the device is sufficient enough for day-to-day usage working alongside the MediaTek MT6739 processor to ensure that the phone can handle the tasks you through at it.
Other specifications of the Huawei Y5 Prime include:
- 13MP camera
- 5MP selfie shooter with an AI beauty mode
- Android 8.1.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 on top
- 4G Support
- 3020mAh battery
