The Huawei Y9 (2019) has been announced today with a pre-order open for those who wish to grab the phone before anyone else. At first look, the Y9 (2019) looks like a beast of a phone, especially going with the recommended retail price of Kes.24,990, but there’s more to the phone than a pretty price.
This is the price that most Kenyans consider mid-range, a space that has in the past been dominated by the likes of Infinix and TECNO. The Huawei Y9 (2019) brings to the table quite a spec sheet:
- Display: 6.5″ (1080p)
- Software: EMUI 8.2 (based on Android 8.1 Oreo)
- Processor: Hisilicon Kirin 710
- Memory: 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage
- Main Camera: Dual 16MP + 2MP
- Front Camera: Dual 13MP + 2MP
- Battery: 4000mAh
The highlights of the phone are the 4 cameras that Huawei says are all AI-powered but far from the marketing buzzwords, the Y9 (2019) can simply recognize the scene you are pointing the camera at and adjust its settings for the optimal output.
The device has two cameras on the front and two on the back. The story here is within the camera app that has been bundled with quite some features. There’s an aperture control mode, night mode, portrait, Pro mode, light painting, AR Lens and many more shooting modes buried within the camera settings, including a beauty on the front-facing camera.
The device is currently available on pre-order, available through Jumia or offline at Huawei branded stores. As part of the pre-order, Huawei has bundled the Y9 (2019) with a gift hamper worth Kes.8,000, including headphones and three-month extension to the already existing 12 months warranty.
