OPPO is on a roll here. Just last week, they teased us with a phone that will come rocking an in-display selfie camera, they have now patented a foldable phone with a dual pop-up camera system. OPPO is now the latest company to join in on the Foldable craze of these first future-stretchers including the Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X and others.
The patent documents as seen by LetsGoDigital show a relatively huge foldable. The device was seen earlier this year at MWC 2019 where the Chinese manufacturer showcased a prototype.
The foldable ditches the sidebar for a dual pop-up camera system giving users a full-screen real estate and allows for photos to be taken whether the phone is folded or not. According to the patent, OPPO describes it as a telescopic camera similar to the OPPO Reno 10X Zoom.
The Galaxy Fold ran into some issues and had to postpone its launch for public consumers after reviewers started reported various problems. But this hasn’t stopped them from patenting future display tech for its foldables such as the wraparound “multi-pane” display that extends over the top edge and falls down to about three-quarters of the rear.
Google is also working on its foldable Pixel devices although they feel like that now’s not the right time to ship one.
Here’s Xiaomi’s dual-folding foldable.

As companies continue launching and patenting foldables, only time will tell if they’re ready for mass adoption. For now, first gen foldables are a collector’s item and only first adopters are the only ones interested and they should be skipped and hopefully, its other tech advancements trickle down to our regular candybar smartphones.
