StarTimes has today announced that they have launched an online app recharge platform to encourage subscribers to avoid cash handling as a result of the threats posed by the corona virus.

This is done through their over the top (OTT) StarTimes ON application which you can get on the major app stores (Google Play and Apple’s App Store). You can link your set-top box with the app which has an electronic wallet that can allow you to pay for your subscription through MPESA, Airtel Money, Equitel, KCB or Cooperative bank.

“This is our strategic effort not only to encourage our subscribers to avoid exposure to coronavirus through cash handling and physical visits by ensuring access to critical support services at the comfort of their home,” StarTimes regional marketing Director, Mr Aldrine Nsubuga said.

StarTimes has an incentive if you use this method to pay for your subscription. They will give you a 5% discount if you choose this method to pay for your StarTimes subscription. StarTimes will also give you an option within the app to change your bouquet or to review your payment history.

You can enjoy content on StarTimes in either Standard Definition, High Definition and even in 4K which is quite nice. The app also can stream content in 2G, 3G or 4G networks with less data consumption, which is crucial for some sections of the public if you decide to stream on the app.

StarTimes launched the StarTimes ON app in December 2018 which had over 150 channels to choose from for the subscribers. The addition of online recharge of their set-top boxes from the app will make it easy for their subscribers to pay for the service easily for the app, which makes the app more valuable to them.
