The Galaxy Z Fold 2 was unveiled at today’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020 virtual event. The foldable was among other devices the tech giant announced including the Galaxy Note 20 series which you can pre-order starting from next week in Kenya.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 packs a full-size 6.2″ Infinity-O cover screen, a 7.6″ main display which means that the route display is larger and wider. It features Samsung’s bendable Ultra-Thin Glass on the display and like the Z Flip, you get a locking hinge that when lets the phone fold like a book.
The Ultra-Thin Glass now provides increased rigidity, durability and scratch-resistance.
To make the hinge more durable, The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 features "a sweeper" which Samsung says uses elastic fibers to clean debris from the hinge that prevents screen damage – it was inspired by a vacuum cleaner.#SamsungEvent#TeamSamsung @SamsungMobileKE pic.twitter.com/jKIrF6gRCZ

Unlike the original Galaxy Fold, the Z Fold 2 comes with a bigger display that has even lesser bezels.
It comes in various colours including Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze. If you are fancy enough, you can get the limited-edition Thom Browne-designed version that is dark grey with a red, white and blue NATO-strap motif running down the back
It’s worth noting that just like the Note 20 series, the display features 120Hz refresh rate.
The Z Fold 2 comes with a new flex mode that will have the phone stay open at different angles.
It looks like the Z Fold 2 has fixed issues with its predecessor as it now comes with a dust sweeper that uses a set of fibers that brush out dust and particles just like a vacuum cleaner(an ad inspired this tech).
The bristles are relatively shorter so that less space is taken by the hinge mechanism.
Powering the Z Fold 2 is a 4500mAh battery charged via a USB-C port. There’s a hole punch selfie camera that’s two-thirds down along the top of the screen, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a triple rear camera setup(all three are 12MP) and an upgraded camera at the three front.
The Z Fold 2 runs on Android 10 and OneUI 2.5 that runs on the Note 20 series.
There’s no headphone jack or stylus.
Samsung didn’t unveil more features of the Fold as it’s slated a separate launch event come September 1st. It is expected that the Z Fold 2 will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Following last years sale that made the original Fold sell out in Kenya, Samsung is planning to double the number of units sold in the country.
Samsung will also increase the units sold globally too. Looks like the hype is real – people are really interested in foldables.
