Huawei has today announced the launch of the Huawei Y9a which is their latest smartphone in the Kenyan market.

The device will retail in all retail stores across the country for Kshs 30,999 and will be bundled with free Bluetooth headsets worth Kshs 2499.

“Young consumers demand a smartphone that excels at mobile gaming, and the Huawei Y9a certainly delivers on that front. Super narrow bezels and the enhanced auto selfie pop-up camera facilitate an unobstructed, immersive viewing experience, allowing you to enjoy a FullView Display whether you are gaming, browsing or watching videos. This stylish and immersive design with 92% screen-to-body ratio is perfect for gamers, ensuring you can play without obstruction.” Huawei Mobile Kenya Country Head, Jim Zhiujie said.

The Huawei Y9a is the fourth Y9 smartphone from Huawei in the past two years which has some upgrades compared to previous versions. We have done a first impressions overview of the device a while ago but this is the run down about it.

It has a 6.63 inch 1080p IPS display with no notch. The back design is reminiscent of the Mate 30 with its “3D Arc” design and “nano textured” surface. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G80 processor with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This storage is expanded by their proprietary NM SD cards upto 256GB. The phone runs on EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10

The Y9a has a lot of megapixels for the price. The main camera system at the back features the primary 64MP unit, an 8MP ultra wide angle camera and two 2MP cameras for depth detection and macro taking capabilities. The front camera is a 16MP unit just like previous Y9 phones.

It also has a relatively huge 4200mAh battery which can be charged pretty quickly with a 40W Huawei SuperCharge cable and charger system. The charging system allows it to nearly charge upto 70% in 30 minutes.

Connectivity is taken care of with a headphone jack, USB Type C port, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi support, Bluetooth 5.1 and support for dual SIM.
