OPPO Reno7 Series

The long-awaited OPPO Reno7 series is scheduled to launch early next week in the country.

The OPPO Reno7 series succeeds the OPPO Reno6 5G from last year and brings with it a bevvy of new features that tout OPPO’s innovative technology and stylish design.

OPPO Kenya has opted to bring both the 4G version and the 5G version of the Reno7 series unlike its predecessor, the OPPO Reno6 5G.

Also, OPPO Reno7 5G comes with 5G already enabled. The OPPO Reno6 5G just got an update that now lets it access the 5G network.

OPPO Reno7 4G will ship with a Snapdragon 680 chipset and Adreno 610 GPU coupled with 8GB RAM(plus 5GB virtual RAM) and 256GB of onboard storage(UFS 2.2). Android 12 and ColorOS 12.1 run the phone.

OPPO Reno7 4G will have a 6.43″ AMOLED screen and 90Hz refresh rate with the additional 180Hz touch sampling rate. The FHD+ screen is HDR compatible with Widevine certification.

OPPO Reno7 5G will come with a MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G processor and Mali-G68 MC4 GPU paired with 8GB RAM(plus 5GB virtual RAM) and 256GB of onboard storage(UFS 2.2). Like its sibling, it will also have Android 11 and ColorOS 12.1.

OPPO Reno7 5G will spot a 6.43″ 90hz AMOLED screen that also supports HDR10+.

Right out of the box, the OPPO Reno7 flaunts the company’s self-developed Fiberglass-Leather design coupled with a thin and lightweight body.

OPPO says that the Reno7 5G has been created by the innovative use of Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) manufacturing process on the exterior of a smartphone.

The use of LDI technology is the first time LDI has ever been applied to the exterior design of a mobile device. It is also the first time that OPPO itself has used laser engraving technology to perform additional precision processing on top of the OPPO Glow layer. This creates a visual and textural illusion of shooting stars streaming across the device that shine and fade into the black galaxy as the phone is held in the hand.

OPPO is also boasting of the portrait capabilities of the Reno7 calling it the Portrait Expert. The OPPO Reno7 Series ships with a custom-made SONY IMX709 sensor that also features the next generation flagship RGBW for the selfie camera for clearer and brighter image capture in low-light conditions.

This sensor is ain all the Reno7 models and also the flagship FindX 5 Pro. All the Reno7 models have an LED ring around one of their cameras.

OPPO Reno7 front-facing cameras come with Selfie HDR feature that the company says will be able to detect light conditions using AI and automatically apply image enhancement algorithms based on the type of conditions detected.

OPPO adds that this will enables users to easily capture high-quality selfies with natural colours and ultra-fine details.

Other camera modes to play with include Bokeh Flare Portrait and AI Portrait Enhancement.

OPPO shares that the Reno7 will be the first smartphone to launch with Micro lens in the country.

OPPO Reno7 4G comes with a 32MP punch-hole selfie camera and a 64MP triple camera setup that also includes the 2MP microscope and 2MP depth sensor.

OPPO Reno7 5G will have a 64MP triple setup as well but with an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro sensor. A 32MP selfie camera like its sibling is included too.

We’ll be taking the OPPO Reno7 series through its paces in our upcoming reviews so stay tuned for that.

OPPO Reno7 series comes in two colours – Sunset Orange and Cosmic Black. The former uses the aforementioned Fiberglass-Leather design to bring that new tactile texture which is combined with a bright orange colour tone to exude that premium feel.

OPPO Reno7 4G packs a 4500mAh battery that supports 33W SuperVOOC fast charging.

OPPO Reno7 5G will have a 4500mAH battery and support 65W fast charging.

Other features include an optical under-display fingerprint sensor, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, IPX4 splash protection, dual nano-SIM card(no MicroSD card slot) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Inside the box, expect a power brick and a USB-C charging cable and hopefully, a pair of earphones.

Pricing and Availability

OPPO will launch both the 4G and 5G versions of the Reno7 series on April 25th. Pricing and availability will probably be shared then.
