OPPO’s Premium Midrange Phone Gets Its Biggest Update in Kenya

OPPO Reno7 5G

OPPO’s premium midrange smartphone, the OPPO Reno7 5G has gotten its biggest update in Kenya. The phone was launched in April this year together with its sibling, the OPPO Reno7 4G. Unlike the latter that shipped with the Android 12 update straight out of the box, the 5G version ran on Android 11 and ColorOS 12.

OPPO Reno7 5G was and still is a great midrange phone and the lack of Android 12 and ColorOS 12.1 was its Achille’s heel.

Well, the phone has just gotten its long-awaited Android 12 update in Kenya. It’s a little bit late now that Android 13 is out and OPPO has already updated its older phones to Android 12 including the Reno5 F, Reno5 and Reno6 5G.

The Android 12 update is still welcome nonetheless.

How To Get The Update

To get the update, head to Settings, and scroll down to About Device. Tap on the ColorOS Icon on the top left to download the update. If the update is available for your phone, a notification will pop up asking you to download the update.

.

It’s a huge 4.81GB update.

OPPO Reno7 5G Features

OPPO Reno7 5G is the top dog in the Reno7 Lineup in the country.

It comes with:

  • 6.43″ 90Hz AMOLED screen that also supports HDR10+
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 5
  • 32MP selfie camera
  • 64MP main coupled with an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro.
  • MediaTek Dimensity 900 with Mali G68 MC4 GPU
  • 8GB RAM(plus 5GB virtual RAM) and 256GB of UFS 2.2 onboard storage
  • Android 11 and ColorOS 12
  • 4500mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging(an hour to go from 0% to 100%)

I’m largely impressed by the OPPO Reno7 5G – it’s a full-feature upgrade with a fantastic display, pretty great and versatile camera, speedy performance, solid battery life and slim design.

You’ll be levelling up when you pick the Reno7 5G.

OPPO Reno7 5G Review: Edge of Perfection

OPPO Reno7 5G is available for Ksh 59,999 at OPPO’s and Safaricom’s retail stores countrywide and on e-commerce sites like Jumia, Kilimall and SkyGarden.

OPPO Reno6 5G Gets September 2022 Security Update

In another update, OPPO has rolled out the September 2022 Security Update to the Reno6 5G in Kenya.

If you are a OPPO Reno6 5G user in Kenya, you can download and install the new software update on your device by navigating to Settings and scrolling down to About Device. Tap on the ColorOS Icon on the top left to download the update.

The security patch enhances the security and stability of the phone.

OPPO Reno6 5G is still holding its own a year after it was launched. Early this year, it got the Android 12 update.

It’s in line to get Android 13 so that should give it a few more years.

Here are its other features:

  • 64MP triple camera setup that features an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro lens.
  • 32MP punch-hole selfie camera
  • Android 12 and ColorOS 12
  • 4300mAh battery and support 65W fast Type-C charging(empty to 57% in under 14 minutes)
  • 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 protection
  • Dimensity 900 5G chip coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

OPPO Reno 6 5G starts selling from Ksh 59,999 in OPPO retail stores and selected eCommerce sites like Kilimall, Jumia, Skygarden and Masoko(Ksh 56,999).
