Earlier this year, Google announced that TECNO was one of the partners to join the Android 13 Beta program. Not a small fete, because it meant the smartphone manufacturer got to test and deploy Android 13 ahead of the pack and let users get those bragging rights.

The smartphone company is now bringing the Android 13 Beta on their latest smartphone, the TECNO Camon 19 Pro 5G. Android 13 delivers both superior performance and privacy and security to users.

TECNO Camon 19 Pro 5G ships with a 120Hz 1080p LCD screen, HiOS 8.6 and is powered by the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 810 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. You can expand both with up to 5GB of virtual RAM and there’s an additional slot for external microSD card.

The TECNO Camon 19 Pro 5G shares the same main cameras as the regular TECNO Camon 19 Pro as we have 64MP main rear cameras in the dual ring setup next to a 50MP portrait camera with 2X optical zoom and a 2MP bokeh lens. The 64MP main camera has OIS support and uses an industry-first RGBW+G+P lens for ‘Bright Night Portrait’.

We get a 32MP front-facing camera for taking selfies.

Android 13 is a refinement of Android 12 and brings with it additional new features.

Google updated Android 12’s Material You design on its successor with new colour themes and cinematic wallpapers. Android 13 ships with a selection of colour palettes ranging from tonal spot to vibrant, expressive and spritz. Users get up to 16 new colour extraction options from the wallpaper. You can also enable custom live wallpapers from images in your gallery.

Material You support now extends to third-party apps as opposed to just supporting Google’s apps.

Android 13 is refining how notifications are also displayed. A new prompt will pop up and request permission for opt-in notifications.

Google added a more intuitive QR code scanner in the quick settings toggle in Android 13. The QR Scanner is also available even when the phone is locked.

Android 13 ships with full support for Bluetooth Low Energy(LE) audio which means you’ll be able to stream the same audio quality but with low energy consumption. Another improvement is multi-stream support.

We also have a new and more appealing look for the now Playing widget as album art now takes up the entire background of the widget and the controls have been moved around a bit. And there’s a squiggly animation for media. The output picker not only follows the Material You theme but also makes switching to a new output system much easier from the phone speaker to wireless headphones or speakers.

Improved clipboard management is on Android 13. You can now view and change the contents of your clipboard. An additional privacy feature is that the clipboard will clear up after a certain time. Within the clipboard, Android has a Nearby share shortcut.

The Privacy Dashboard has neat updates too. Android 13 features a 7-day view on the dashboard and adds more context about how your data has been accessed and used.

Android 13 allows apps to call the new text conversion API, which will make it easier for users to find the content they need faster and easier.

“We are glad that through the long-term partnership with Google, TECNO has been providing our users with the latest Android system to bring them extraordinary using experiences. The TECNO CAMON 19 Pro (5G) with Android 13 Beta will definitely allow our users to be among the first to access new features and bring them pleasures,” said Stephen HA, Vice President of Transsion and Group Manager of TECNO Mobile.

Meanwhile, TECNO also shared that they will be updating Android 12 on its Camon 18 series(they originally came with Android 11 at launch), and will continue to be dedicated to making their users the early adopters of the latest system and cutting-edge technology breakthroughs with the freshest product experience.

Pricing and Availability

The TECNO Camon 19 Pro 5G goes for Ksh 41,599 at any of TECNO’s official retail stores countrywide, Safaricom’s official retail shop and online at Masoko, Jumia and Kilimall.
