TECNO has updated its photography-focused smartphone lineup with the launch of the Camon 19 series. The company brought the regular Camon 19 and the Camon 19 Pro that are available in the Kenyan market right now. The Camon 19 5G will be shipping later.
We got our hands on the TECNO Camon 19 Pro and here’s how its cameras perform.
Before we begin, lets talk about the lenses.
The Camon 19 Pro and the entry-level Camon 19 share the same camera island design rocking a dual-ring setup. They share the same 64MP main snappers.
The similarities end there.
TECNO Camon 19 Pro has a 50MP portrait camera with 2X optical zoom and a 2MP bokeh lens.
The Pro 64MP main camera has OIS support and uses an industry-first RGBW+G+P lens for ‘Bright Night Portrait’. TECNO says that the switch from plastic to glass lens increases the light intake by more than 208%.
Apart from the usual modes such as beauty, Portrait and super night – you also get a new fun Sky Shop mode that lets you change the sky in the background of a photo and you can choose between sunny, rainbow, azure sky, starry, galaxy and more
For selfies, we get a 32MP front-facing camera.
Selfie lovers will mostly be pleased with the quality of shots.
TECNO Camon 19 takes way more natural selfies. Selfie portraits struggle with overexposure though as you’ll see below.
Nighttime selfies and portraits come out really well.
Portraits are handled better with the main camera, especially with background exposure.
When there’s solid lighting, most shots come out crisp and well exposed with plenty of detail and little noise.
The included Night mode helps out further and the Camon 19 Pro could pull out a lot of colour and detail from an underlit scene.
As expected, I loved how versatile the Pro’s cameras are – they took really beautiful photos worth sharing on social media.
As a camera-centric phone, the camon 19 Pro is a consistently good shooter and it’s hard to take a bad picture with this phone.
The videos taken came out really good even though the resolution is capped at 2K for the rear and main selfies. There’s Film Mode with customizable video templates with themes surrounding travel, sport, party, performance, street, family and more. These templates come together with a variety of transitions, camera movements and music choices in the Film mode.
Verdict
TECNO Camon 19 Pro’s cameras do the job really well and left me impressed. I’m still checking out its other features – so make sure to check out our full review coming very soon. But for photography, the Camon 19 Pro is a sure bet worth considering.
