The foldable smartphone market has heated up in the past few months with everyone joining in on the fun. Samsung Z Fold5 is set to succeed the Z Fold4 from late last year and will be coming to a pretty crowded market with rivals like the TECNO Phantom V Fold, the OPPO’s Find N2, Vivo’s X Fold+, Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 2 and Honor’s Magic Vs.
Samsung still dominates this format of phones with 82% market share.
The Samsung Z Fold4 was an incredible device on its own and even an upgrade over the Z Fold3 as we had seen from our in-depth comparison review between the two. The Samsung Z Fold5 promises improvements as well and will have to work even harder to stand out among its rivals.
Samsung Z Fold5 is set to be launched in a few months and if the South Korean giant sticks to schedule, we’ll see the new foldable in August with its new sibling, the Samsung Z Flip5. Here’s what we know so far as we wait for the official announcement.
Samsung will stick to tradition and keep the design of the foldable the same as its predecessor. One huge upgrade is that we’re getting a new hinge design. Samsung is switching from the U-shaped hinge to a water droplet hinge which will make the crease less visible from the display and make the foldable actually close flat.

This change means that it will also be thinner and lighter as well.
We’re getting the same 6.2″ outer screen and probably and 7.6” main screen – both of which are Dynamic OLED screens with 120Hz of variable refresh rate.
For optics, Samsung will use the same cameras on the Z Fold5 as the Z Fold4. This will include the 50MP main, a 10MP telephoto with 3X optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide. Hopefully, we get an improved camera experience.
Samsung will use the Snapdragon silicon for Galaxy – the overclocked 8 Gen 2 that powers the Galaxy S23 series. Pairing this will be 12GB of RAM and storage options will start at 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. All these will use UFS 4.0.
It will ship with Android 13 and OneU1 5.1. We expect it to be optimized for the large screen just like the Z Fold 4.
There’ll be no slot for the built-in S Pen, unfortunately.
The Z Fold5 will have a 4400mAh battery which will use 25W fast charging and 15W fast wireless charging.
It is unknown if the pricing will be the same or if there will be a slight increase.
