Uber Eats Arrives in Kisumu, Its Sixth City in Kenya

Uber Eats has now arrived at the lakeside city of Kisumu, its sixth city in the county.

The launch of the food delivery platform in Kisumu signals multi-level value addition across the value chain, including restaurants, retailers and delivery people, who will be able to access flexible and independent earning opportunities for the city’s residents. Uber Eats currently operates in five other cities including Naivasha, Eldoret, Mombasa, Nakuru and Nairobi.

Uber Eat’s arrival is intended to bring city residents a variety of selection options for food, grocery and retail- all at the tap of a button.

As an on-demand marketplace, Uber Eats seamlessly connects businesses and consumers, providing an ever-expanding array of goods and services available on the app. One can find a wide spectrum of goods on the Uber Eats app that cuts across diverse consumer needs and price points where it continues to expand the categories it offers including Convenience, Liquor, Pharmacy & Wellness and Everyday Essentials.

Uber Eats has been operating in the country since landing in 2018 with Nairobi as its first city. Uber Eats was founded in 2014, way after Uber was launched to the world.

The Uber subsidiary started operating in their home country as UberFRESH but was later renamed to UberEATS in 2015. They have since expanded to align with consumers’ evolving needs including restaurant selections that range from local favourites to large enterprise partners and well-known retail and grocery merchants.

Uber Eats has more than 1 million merchants across the globe on its platform spread across 11,000 cities in six continents.

Uber Eats has over 1000 merchants across the country – both in online food delivery and grocery and retail. They launched three virtual liquor stores – Uber Eats Market Cellar which stocks both from EABL and imported brands.
