Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), a transmission distribution company and part of the globally diversified Adani portfolio, today said that it has completed SPV acquisition of Khavda Phase-IV Part-A transmission project after receiving a letter of intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL).
AESL has taken over the Khavda IVA Power Transmission Ltd project from RECPDCL. This project involves building a transmission line to carry 7 GW of renewable energy from the Khavda RE park. The line will connect Khavda to Lakadia and Khavda to Bhuj, and will have a transformation capacity of 4,500 MVA. This project is part of Phase IV Part A of the National Grid plan.
The Khavda renewable energy park, the world’s largest with a planned capacity of 30 GW, will significantly help India reduce its carbon emissions. AESL has been awarded the project through a bidding process and will complete it within two years. AESL will then own and operate the park for 35 years.
Adani will build a 298-kilometer transmission project that will also include building a 300 MVAr STATCOM, three 1500 MVA 765/400 kV Inter-connecting Transformers (ICTs) with one 330 MVAr 765 kV and one 125 MVAr 420 kV bus reactor.
“As the world’s largest renewable energy park, Khavda demands power evacuation infrastructure that is not only world-class but also resilient and future-ready,” said Mr Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer, AESL. “This investment will not only establish the critical transmission network required to evacuate the planned 30 GW of green power that Khavda will generate but also provide the much-needed grid stability”.
AESL in Kenya
Recently, AESL sealed a $907 million deal to build 371km of transmission lines and 5 substations in Kenya. This will be in Eastern and Western parts of the country under a Public Private Partnership (PPP). Adani is also in the process of taking over operations of Kenya’s main airport and has registered a company, called Airports Infrastructure PLC (AIP), in Kenya to do this.
