Someone was very sure the answer was Paris. They were wrong. They argued about it anyway, and the table next to them laughed, and somewhere in that moment you understood exactly what Brainbox is about.
Techweez’s quiz night series returned for its first session of 2026 on March 19 at Amazonia Bistro in Lavington, Nairobi, this time in partnership with the West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC).
The room filled up with tech folks, media people, startup types, and a few people who just really like trivia. The mix, as always, was part of the fun.
What Went Down?
Teams worked through rounds covering general knowledge, famous city skylines, pop culture, and a few categories that seemed specifically created to cause disagreements within a team.

There were the confident wrong answers, the quiet correct one from the person at the table who nobody expected to know that particular fact, and rounds where everyone got it wrong.

Between the Rounds
What Brainbox does that a regular networking event usually does not is give people a reason to talk to strangers without the pressure to make an impression.
In that spirit, WIOCC was a fitting partner for an evening like this. Known as Africa’s Carriers’ Carrier, the company builds and runs the submarine cables, national fiber links, and metro networks that carry internet traffic across the continent.
In Kenya, that work includes the metro networks in Nairobi and Mombasa and the long-distance fiber link connecting the two cities.
At the end of the night, the final scores came in, the winners were announced and properly recognized, and prizes went to the teams with the best luck.
Everyone else left with a few new contacts, a handful of facts they will probably forget by next week, and at least one answer they are still quietly convinced was right.
That is the thing about Brainbox. Winning is great, but it is not really the point. The point is the room, the rounds, the people, and the fact that by the end of the night, you have had a good time with people who you likely would have never met.
Brainbox 2026 is off to a strong start. The next one is coming. Keep an eye out.
