Huawei promised to update its flagship smartphone to KitKat in January. That never happened and two months later the device is still stuck on good old Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It never made the jump to Android 4.3 and it won’t as the company chose to focus on the more sensible KitKat update. That update has arrived OTA to users of the device in its home market of China where it is currently rolling out to subscribers of giant carrier China Mobile. That version is for the CDMA devices on China Mobile’s network so P6 users in other markets simply can’t flash the firmware, you’ll have to wait for your turn. The China Mobile version of the Ascend P6 is the P6-T00 while the global variant is the P6-U06.
The update brings Huawei’s custom Emotion UI version 2.0 to the device, an upgrade from the current 1.6 that the device has been rocking. Probably it will also include the 1000+ themes that Huawei made available for its latest smartphone, the Ascend G6 which shamefully launched with Android 4.2 on-board instead of the more recent 4.4.
A global rollout is expected soon before the company makes official its plans of unveiling the P6’s successor (P7?).
