As much as it has seemed to slow down, Tizen is almost hitting a start of life going by new details coming from the East. Tizen Experts reports that a shipment of 160,000 smartphones have been made to India and there is a launch date attached. Samsung had previously slowed down plans for a Tizen devices launch.
This was the Tizen based Samsung Z which launched for Russia but faced delays and finally never went to market. Now it seems Samsung is ready to hit the low end smartphone market starting with India this month. Samsung is said to be planning for a 10th December press event to reveal the Samsung Z1.
Below are the expected specs of the Samsung Z1
- 4 inch WVGA display, 480 x 800 pixels
- 1.2GHz CPU
- Tizen OS v2.3
- Samsung Browser
- Media Player
- Dual-SIm
- FM Radio
- 3G, HSDPA, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
- Bluetooth 4.0 Low energy
- GPS + GLONASS
Samsung could have decided to start Tizen from the bottom up since at the entry level there is not much demand for apps and they can work on getting the Tizen ecosystem right as they gain a userbase. This is the reason it wasn’t released with the higher end Tizen Z1 which was to go to Russia. This will be definitely a space to watch.
