Instagram’s New Update is What it Should Have Been from the Start

Not long ago, we listed 5 features that we would have loved to have on Instagram. Looks like they either listened or were already hard at work on incorporating them because they just did that.

Instagram has released a new update to its app with a completely redesigned Explore and Search. In Explore, you can now view real time trends where trending tags and trending places will enable you to discover content the Instagram community is posting and talking about.

The new Explore page has curated collections like “Discover New People” “Trending Places” Glimmering Islands and others which will be updated regularly. With the new search, you can easily scout for any location and adds a top search where you can search people, places and tags conveniently.

The curated collections will look like this:

This is the new search that will combine top trends, people search, tag search and location search.

The company says it will always be working to update the photos and videos you see on Explore & Search so that they are better suited for users. They may show photos liked by people whose posts you had liked; people or posts that have gone viral. However, if your account is private, only the people you have approved to follow you will be able to see the photos you’ve shared on Explore and Search

These curated collections that will be on Explore sadly will only be available in the US, although the company promises they’ll roll out to other countries. We hope they are able to achieve this quickly since this will be a very important tool to discover content that you are interested in and people you may want to follow.

These new features will benefit photographers immensely due to the ease of search and curated content which will link photographers of the same interests. This reminds us of VSCO, a photographer centric community where people upload visually striking photos. Thanks to this update, the curated collections will feature epic photos that will rival VSCO Cam Grid. Also, thanks to this update, engagement will definitely go a notch higher, a win win situation for the platform

The new update (Version 7.0) is currently rolling out and may not be immediately available in your region.
