WhatsApp has been accessible via the web for quite some time now. While you can only access WhatsApp on the web when your mobile phone is also connected to the internet, it makes for a handy application most of the time especially if your life revolves around the desktop. While you can still use the likes of Pushbullet to get notified every time you get a new message and even reply to it, at times you may be the one who wants to initiate conversation or share something. That’s where WhatsApp web comes in handy. But for the most part, besides casual chatting, there hasn’t been much in the way of controls that users could tinker with to enhance their experience.
That is changing though. WhatsApp has rolled out a new server side update that introduces critical features that were previously not available. Like the ability to change your WhatsApp profile picture, delete and archive individual chats and even manage your coveted groups. WhatsApp group admins will now be able to change the group icon, add new members and, well, kick out the annoying ones.
Since this is a server-side change, you don’t need to do anything on your side in order to experience the new features. They’re available to you on web.whatsapp.com immediately.
