When Orange Kenya rebranded to Telkom Kenya, they threw in goodies in way of free WhatsApp and daily 1GB data free for use in 4G areas. This was given to subscribers to get to enjoy 4G and what it represents, freedom to do much more on the smartphone with great Internet speeds.
This was to happen for a month and a half from launch. But it didn’t end yet. 4 months later, Telkom Kenya subscribers still get to enjoy free WhatsApp (including media files) and 1GB free for those who already migrated to 4G SIM cards and are in 4G zones.
The news today is that we have another month to enjoy this as the two have been extended to the end of October. Telkom Kenya is transitioning to being the pro-active telco that from the time of rebrand went on a path of innovative products in the mobile data space. This means that they will be working to make the life of the smartphone user pleasant as days go by.
To subscribe to 4GFORFREE, dial *544# on your Telkom line and select option 1. You will need to have been subscribed to an active data bundle, be in a 4G covered area, have a 4G ready SIM card and a 4G device configured to connect via 4G.
As for Free WhatsApp, under *544#, select option 2. Note, you will need to have airtime of at least Kshs 1. This will not be used for WhatsApp but a precondition. Free WhatsApp is available for all Telkom pre-pay customers.
