Remember EURO? It is a mini-World Cup for Europe or AFCON for our lovely continent or COPA America for South America.
The event was supposed to be held in 2020, four years after the 2016 staging but that did not happen because of the ongoing pandemic.
However, sports events have been going on just fine thanks to thorough testing and vaccination programs. The development also means that the 2020 Euros will be played in 2021 from June 11 to 11 July, 2021.
2016 matches were broadcasted on platforms such as GOtv, but not all matches were aired there.
This time around, things will be different.
Supersport, the sports event aggregator owned by South Africa’s MultiChoice, will give DStv and GOtv viewers access to all the 51 matches of the competition.
The games will be played in 12 European cities.
According to MultiChoice, it has prepared 12 dedicated channels for the Olympics for DStv customers and 4 channels for GOtv users.
Furthermore, the platform will air 339 gold medal events with the Grandstand channel on DStv carrying the best events at any given time. All 8 channels will also be available to stream on The DStv App.
Also, GOtv customers will have four Olympics channels – 2 on GOtv Max, 1 on GOtv Plus and 1 on the GOtv Value package.
The Paralympics event will have two channels.
The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, and also known as Tokyo 2020 is scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
The games are a perfect segue to MultiChoice Kenya’s decoder prices. Well, the DStv one (and kit) costs KES 4000.
On the other hand, customers can purchase the GOtv decoder plus one-month GOtv Plus subscription for Sh. 1300.
“We are excited to offer these feature sporting events to our customers as part of our promise of being the home of sport. It is a fact that SuperSport shows more live sport than any other broadcaster on the continent and this year we are taking it a notch higher. Over the next 12 months, sports fans can also look forward to the Women’s Tennis Association Championships, WWE, and UFC which will continue to reinvent with new shows and new stars,” said Nancy Matimu MultiChoice Kenya Managing Director.
