TECNO Camon 18 Series Launch

TECNO has finally unveiled new smartphones in its camera-centric Camon line – the Camon 18 and Camon 18 Premier in the country. The Camon line is also the company’s midrange series – set between the flagship Phantom series and the entry-level Spark series.

We are at the official launch of @TECNOMobile254's latest midrange smartphones – the #CAMON18 series.

Follow along this thread for updates.

The Camon 18 series succeed the Camon 17 series from early this year.

TECNO went big on the Camon line and slapped everything but the kitchen sink on the new series – display, processor, cameras and more.

NOW READ: TECNO Camon 18 First Impressions Review: Refined

TECNO Camon 18 Premier rocks a 6.7″ Dot-in FullHD+ AMOLED Display with 120Hz refresh rate while the smaller sibling – the Camon 18 has a 6.8″ FullHD+ LCD Display with 90Hz refresh rate.

Both displays have 550 nits of brightness.

.

The Camon 17 Pro had a 6.8″ FHD+ Dot-in display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Both get faster processors compared with their respective predecessors. The Camon 18 Premier feature the Helio G96 processor, an upgrade over the Camon 17 Pro’s Helio G95 chip.

The Camon 18 ships with a Helio G88 processor which is better than the Helio G85 chip of the Camon 17.

Camon 18 Premier comes with Mali G57 GPU while Camon 18 comes with Mkai G52 chip.

Both phones come with Android 11 and HiOS 8 UI straight out of the box. It is likely that we’ll see them get upgraded to Android 12 and HiOS 8.5 when the update rolls later this year.

Camon 18 Premier has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage while the Camon 18 has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage – both expandable with an external microSD card.

Optics is where the Camon line shines the brightest in terms of features.

TECNO went all in with the Camon 18 Premier that sports a 64MP triple setup that features a hardware depth engine for dual-camera bokeh captures, a Camera Control Unit (CCU) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) technologies combined with TECNO’s AI Vision Optimization Solution (TAIVOS) to create smoother, sharper and clearer photos and videos.

Its other camera modules include an 8MP periscope telephoto lens that has 5X optical zoom and up to 60X digital zoom plus an additional 12MP OIS gimbal ultrawide lens.

We also have a 32MP punch-hole selfie camera.

Camon 18 has a 48MP triple setup too which also includes a 2MP macro and 2MP depth camera.

For selfies, we have a 16MP front-facing camera nestled in the centre punch-hole cutout.

Both phones have side-mounted fingerprint sensors, headphone jack, type-C charging ports, microphone and bottom-facing speakers. The Premier has a secondary microphone located at the top.

Fueling up the phones are a 4750mAh battery for the Premier and a 5000mAh battery for the regular Camon 18. Both support 33W fast type-C charging.

The regular Camon 18 comes in various options including Dusk Grey, Ceramic White and Iris Purple while the Camon 18 Premier comes in Vast Sky and Polar Night.

Pricing and Availability

TECNO Camon 18 series starts selling from Ksh 39,099 for the Premier while the regular Camon 18 starts selling from Ksh 27, 699 and the Canon 18P starts selling from Ksh 22,199 at its retail stores countrywide and partner e-commerce platforms.
