realme has been in the Kenyan market for a while now. The company, whose sister brands include OPPO and vivo, has been selling low-cost devices locally, and it has never really brought its high-end smartphones here.
Nonetheless, and in the spirit of remaining relevant locally and appealing to customers who do not want to spend an arm and a leg on a phone, realme has revealed that it will be bringing budget-conscious the realme 9 4G and realme C35 here. The devices, according to realme, are targeting young people.
realme 9 4G
Screen: 6.4”, Super AMOLED, 90 Hz, FHD+
OS: Android 12, realme UI 3.0
Chip: Snapdragon 680 4G
Memory: 6/128 GB, 8/128 GB
Camera: Triple setup with 108 MP main sensor
Selfie: 16 MP
Battery: 5000 mAh, 33W fast charging
realme C35
Screen: 6.6” FH+, ISP
OS: Android 11, realme UI 2.0
Chip: Unisoc Tiger T616
Memory: 4/64 GB, 6/64 GB, 4/128 GB
Camera: Triple with 50 MP main sensor
Selfie: 8 MP
Battery: 5000 mAh, 18W fast charging
The realme 9 4G is obviously a superior device with that 108 MP main sensor. It also ships with Android 12, unlike the C35 that has Android 11 that is a little aged now.
The C35 also appears to have kept modest looks, which include the now dated teardrop notch that houses the selfie camera. A cleaner design would have been welcome, but it is not a deal breaker.
The devices will arrive locally sometime in July. Pricing details have not been revealed, but that should be done at the time the smartphones get here.
realme’s sister brand OPPO brought its high-end Find X5 to Kenya for KES 100K. realme’s high ends, such as the GT Neo 3 hardly make their way here, but we hope that will change in the coming days.
