After receiving criticism from users and mega influencers and Reality TV moguls Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner this last few days, Instagram finally caved in and has walked back the TikTok like changes they have been pushing in recently.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram CEO said that they(Instagram) will take a big step and regroup following pressure from its 2.9 billion users.
Alot of users have been crying out to Instagram to stop it from becoming TikTok.
In the update, Adam said that Instagram will continue to support photos and that more and more of Instagram is going to be video.Instagram will scale back the changes by reducing the number of recommend posts and accounts on people’s feeds.
This walk back is however temporary.
Instagram will improve its ranking and recommendations algorithms. After this you’ll continue to see posts and Reels from accounts you don’t follow.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO shared that they’re going to double up recommended posts in Instagram and Facebook over the next year.
Instagram is also stopping rolling out the new design that showcases full screen videos and full screen photos. This controversial design got a lot of bad reactions and Instagram’s data usage wasn’t great.
“I’m glad we took a risk — if we’re not failing every once in a while, we’re not thinking big enough or bold enough,” said Adam while speaking to Platformer.
TikTok has been Instagram’s biggest rival and the Meta-oened platform has been launching feature that copy TikTok including Reels and the full screen design for photos and videos.
Her are the best reactions:
“temporarily” = “just long enough for the influencers to stop yelling at us” https://t.co/eM7lzBB6ik

If Kylie Jenner speaks it, your platform is in trouble. Never forget snap losing over $1 billion when she said she didn’t open Snapchat anymore (in 2018) bc of the redesign pic.twitter.com/jkmAuWoFen

The new Instagram update really understood what I was looking for:
— Meg Watson (@msmegwatson) July 14, 2022
– none of my friends’ content
– reposted TikToks from meme accounts I do not follow
– 100x more ads
– everything played at full volume against my will
Why do u give us “recommendations” while u already gave us EXPLORE tab? Leave the Feed tab alone, to see the contents of the people we follow. No need to click “following” button EVERYTIME we wanna see their contents! That’s why we FOLLOW people, so we don’t miss their contents.

this is really it, there’s nothing wrong with video — I use tiktok too — but you can’t just say “we’re gonna prioritize all video” if it’s not high quality, most ig reels are just reposted from tiktok, there’s not anything inspiring users to really make good unique content there https://t.co/gHkPoC9jvP pic.twitter.com/n80EEfvEEq

It’s mad that Facebook’s (and thus Insta’s) business model is:
— Dr Panti Bliss-Cabrera (@PantiBliss) July 27, 2022
– make something people like
– want loads more money
– turn it into something advertisers like but everybody else hates
– kill business
– put feet up thinking “we do business good!” https://t.co/JxjQ7ozUX2
