OPPO has just launched the OPPO Reno 8T series which includes the 5G and 4G versions. The two phones are the company’s newest midrange phones in the Reno line for the Kenyan market. We take a look at the 5G version in midnight black. The Reno8 T 5G sports a big 4800mAh battery, a 6.7″ AMOLED curved screen, a slim and lightweight design, fast 67W SuperVOOC charging, ColorOS 13, Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, a 108MP triple camera setup and a 32MP selfie camera. Specs aside, what does the OPPO Reno8 T bring to the midrange market?
Unboxing
OPPO Reno8 T 5G comes packed in a sleek white box and inside is the user guide, sim ejector tool, black matte case, 67W charging brick, Type-C charging cable, and the phone itself with a pre-applied screen protector. As a tradition, there’s no included pair of earphones.
Design
Our unit comes in a Midnight Black shade but you can get yours in the Dawn Gold variant, the phone is slim and lightweight measuring 7.7mm and weighing 171g respectively. The phone has a 6.7” Slightly Curved AMOLED Screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz Refresh Rate.
Biometrics is handled by an in-display fingerprint reader and face unlock. My favorite was the face recognition sensor which with a quick glance the phone is unlocked.
On the Bottom is the type-C charger port, Stereo speakers and a sim card slot. The screen is a notch higher at 950 nits peak brightness and is sufficient for consuming content like watching movies, scrolling social media, gaming and browsing the web seamlessly with the 120hz refresh rate.
You get a hole punch cutout Selfie Camera at the centre front.
At the back, we get a triple camera setup, LED flashlight and a black finish on the cover.
The bottom-facing speaker impressed me more compared to any of the phone speakers I’ve heard before, you can’t miss a call even a mile away.
Performance
Going under the hood, we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G (6nm) processor paired with Adreno 619 GPU.
Android 13 and ColorOS 13 come baked in to run the phone.
Reno 8T 5g ships with 8GB of RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 Storage. You can expand the RAM with up to 8GB Virtual RAM. These features make the performance smooth, from multitasking to switching between apps with efficiency.
There was no lag with this phone during my combo gaming – switching from Call of Duty mobile and Asphalt.
The reno8 T lasted more than 3 hours on continuous play without the phone overheating.
Cameras
The Reno 8T 5G has a triple camera setup on the rear with a 108MP main, 2MP depth, and another 2MP macro. The system tops out video recording at 1080p@30fps.
You get a 32MP selfie camera on this phone that also caps video recording at 1080p 30fps.
Photography and video performance are pretty solid in good lighting, on the lowlight scenarios we get a fair image processing. Shots and videos come out with pretty good contrast, sharpness and colour with impressive dynamic range.
This is the best portrait camera ever seen yet.

Battery Life
OPPO Reno8T 5G packs a 4800mAh battery that charges up using 67W fast Charge. It’s super fast as you can go from 0% to 100% in 40 minutes. Battery performance is dependable too as I was averaging 8 hours of screen time with heavy use.
OPPO included 5-layer charging protection and Battery Health Engine to ensure long battery life and safe fast charging.
VERDICT
OPPO Reno8T 5G boasts robust performance, excellent camera performance, ultra-fast charging, nice design and is one of the best midrange smartphones in the country.
