Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi 13C to the Kenyan market just in time for the Christmas festivities. The Redmi series is the company’s most affordable lineup and the Redmi 13C succeeds the Redmi 12C with neat upgrades worth checking out.

While the Redmi 13C weighs just like its predecessor, Xiaomi changed a few things including a design revamp. The matte back makes it look stunning as it hides smudges and fingerprints – which is handy since the phone doesn’t come with a case included in the box. However, the camera island is glossy.

Redmi 13C features a flat design and Xiaomi moved the fingerprint reader from the back to the side which is pretty welcome. You also get a headphone jack and an 18W Type-C charging port – an improvement over the 10W micro-USB port that came with the Redmi 12C. The charging brick included in the box is however capped at 10W.

The front boasts a 6.74″ LCD screen sporting 720p resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate(the Redmi 12C came with the standard 60Hz) and brightness peaking at 600 nits. It also has Gorilla Glass protection. The display is slightly interrupted by a U-shaped notch that houses the selfie camera. Its predecessor had a V-shaped notch so this is another welcome design change.

Powering the phone is a MediaTek Helio G85 with RAM and storage options starting from 4GB and 128GB respectively – going all the way to 8GB and 256GB. There’s the option to expand storage with an external microSD card up to 1TB. TRunning things around is Android 13 and MIUI 14.

For cameras, we get a 50MP triple rear setup which also includes a 2MP macro and a depth sensor. Selfies are taken care of by the 8MP front-facing camera – an improvement over the 5MP selfie camera of the Redmi 12C. Video recording is capped at 1080p 30fps for both cameras.

Xiaomi Redmi 13C comes with a 5000mAh battery.

Pricing for the phone depends on the RAM and storage options you go with:

  • Ksh 16,199: 4GB RAM/128GB
  • Ksh 17,699: 6GB RAM/128GB
  • Ksh 20,099: 8GB RAM/256GB

“As the festive season approaches, Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C stands out as the ultimate gift, whether for yourself or a loved one. This affordable smartphone ensures that everyone can welcome the new year with a brand-new device boasting the best specs,” said Xiaomi in a statement.
