Vivo V29 5G – Ksh 58,500

When it comes to midrange camera smartphones, vivo’s V series never misses and the V29 5G shows that with its photography and videography prowess. Read our full review here.

Vivo V29 ships with a triple rear setup and a punch-hole selfie camera. It has a 50 MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP depth camera. We also have a 50 MP front-facing camera.

Vivo V29 5G Cameras

Vivo V29 comes with an Aura Light feature that brightens faces when taking lowlight portrait shots. There’s a Smart Color Temperature Adjustment that detects the surroundings when the Aura Light is enabled which is a nice addition and the pictures are appealing.

It comes in handy when you don’t want to use the LED flash as the photos taken with the Aura Light don’t have the harshness.

Samsung Galaxy A54 – Ksh 47,000

While the Galaxy A55 has been announced, it has yet to be launched in Kenya, so our pick is the Samsung Galaxy A54.

The A54 has a 50MP main with OIS, 12MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro. It also has a 32MP selfie camera. All cameras support 4K video recording.

Galaxy A54 is powered by the 5nm Exynos 1380 and has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It shipped with Android 13 and it got upgraded to Android 14. Samsung has promised up to four major Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches.

Google Pixel 7 – Ksh 62,500

For optics, the Pixel 7 has a 50MP main camera with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide plus a 10.8MP selfie camera. They support up to 4K video recording.

Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, and 1400 nits brightness and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. It has an aluminium frame and a glass back that is also protected by Victus as well. It is rated IP68 ingress protection.

PIXEL 7 Cameras

Pixel 7 has Tensor G2 chipset with AI capabilities, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. It launched with Android 13 and got upgraded to Android 14. It is going to get three years of Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches.

Pixel 7 has a 4355mAh battery and 20W wired and wireless charging. To get to 100%, you’ll need an hour and 40 minutes and a quick toss for 30 minutes will charge to 48%.

Infinix Zero 30 5G – Ksh 39,500

Zero 30 5G comes with a 108MP primary camera with object image stabilization, a 13 MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro. It has a 50MP selfie camera. All the cameras including the front-facing support shooting 4K 60fps video.

The cameras feel snappy and take fantastic flagship-level shots even in low light. The photos are sharp, well-detailed and colourful with decent saturation, dynamic range and exposure. The portraits are excellent including selfies too.

The ability to shoot 4K on both rear and front cameras is one content creators will love. The exposure, the saturation, the dynamic range, the sharpness – I really enjoyed taking videos with the Zero 30. It’s worth noting that there’s an ultra-steady mode that captures video 1080p at 30fps for both front and rear cameras.

Besides normal video modes, you get cinema-style vlog templates with themes ranging from sport, street, family, vintage, travel and more.

Overall, the Zero 30 5G brings the heat with its versatile camera system and the performance is great in most scenarios. It’s a camera champ in my eyes.

OnePlus Nord 3 packs a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro camera. It also has a 16MP selfie camera. These are the same cameras a steh Nord 2 but with a change of sensor in the main camera.
