Spotify is once again increasing its prices just like every other streaming platform in its bid to increase profits for the service.
The company is increasing its monthly subscription prices by $1 to $2 across a few regions. Subscribers in the UK, Pakistan and Australia will see new charges at the end of this month.
The audio and now video service is increasing the prices to cover the cost of audiobooks they launched last year. When they launched the audiobook service, it was free for premium subscribers and now said subscribers will have to pay more to access its audiobook catalogue with 300,000 titles.
To this effect, Spotify is introducing a new basic tier that doesn’t cover audiobooks. Subscribers in this basic tier will have access to music and podcasts only.
The platform is also working on a “super-premium” plan that is set to feature high-fidelity audio – something we’ve been complaining about since forever. Its rivals, Apple and Tidal already have this feature on their streaming sites.
Subscribers in Kenya are safe from the new price hike and you’ll continue to enjoy your current plan.
